Scientifiques

, 12:13pm

As you know, this year the Festival has widen its activity and integrated sciences to its programme. Here are the presentations of the four scientists that made us the honour of inaugurating this new tradition.

Mr A. Freslon

"My research field is called "noncommutative geometry". It connects many different parts of mathematics using some geometric ideas. Because of this, my work is connected with many different topics like algebra, geometry and analysis. I am more specifically interested in using these ideas to study "symetries". The symetries that I study are called "quantum groups" and appear both in mathematics and in theoretical physics. That is the reason why I am also very interested in physics, especially the "standard model" which studies the elementary particles which form the matter.

Apart from this, I am also very keen on music and a piano player myself. This naturally led me to wonder about the physical origins of music and its link with mathematics."

François Guillet is a graduated engineer from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris. He also holds a PhD in Material Science from the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris. He entered the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission) in 1997 where he worked in the field of material characterization, principally using X-ray diffraction. His current research activities involve digitizing material microstructures using X-Ray microtomography and writing parallel code to compute material properties from digitized structures.

He is married, has two children, two cats but only one horse.

Pr Latremouille
